Onivia Successfully Completes the Densification of its Rural Network

MADRID, January 2025 – Onivia, a neutral and independent wholesale operator, has successfully completed its rural network densification project, connecting more than 1,400 municipalities in 48 Spanish provinces with ultrafast fibre optic. This milestone, developed over two and a half years, is part of the company’s long-term strategy to democratise high-speed internet access. Today, Onivia already connects more than 10 million households across the country.

Redefining Connectivity in Rural Areas
The deployment has had a significant impact in low-density population areas where Onivia assure coverage levels of nearly 70% in municipalities within its footprint. This achievement marks a decisive step forward in infrastructure development in hard-to-reach areas, helping to reduce inequalities in access to technology and fostering digital inclusion in rural communities.

Commitment to Customers, Shareholders, and Communities
This project embodies Onivia’s vision of enabling the growth of local operators and democratizing access to high-quality fiber optic. Thanks to Onivia’s infrastructure and platform, operators have been able to develop differentiated offerings that improve the quality of life for end users and create opportunities in historically underserved areas.
The accomplishment of this first phase reflects Onivia’s firm commitment to customers, shareholders, and communities, solidifying its position as a leader in the wholesale market. However, this milestone is just the beginning: the company remains committed to expanding its network to reach areas where it is most valuable for its clients and to promote universal connectivity that bridges the digital divide.

Connectivity: The First Step Towards Digital Inclusion
High-speed connectivity is only the first step in closing the digital divide between urban and rural areas. Onivia stresses the need to complement this infrastructure with value-added services, digital education, and affordable offers that empower communities to harness the full potential of fibre optic.
In this regard, Onivia aligns itself with the Connectivity and Digital Infrastructure Plan, part of the Digital Spain 2026 strategy and the 2030 Agenda goals. This plan recognizes connectivity and digitalization as key tools to bridge socio-economic, gender, generational, territorial, and environmental digital divides.
Onivia is actively contributing to positioning Spain as a leader in digital infrastructure in Southern Europe and to building a more cohesive, inclusive, and sustainable society.

A Connected, Inclusive, and Sustainable Future
Onivia continues its commitment to the development of neutral, high-quality infrastructure that not only transforms connectivity in rural areas, but also promotes equal opportunities, economic growth, and social progress.
This milestone reinforces Onivia’s vision for the future: to bring fibre optic to every corner of the country and to transform connectivity into a tool for equality and development, driving a more connected and inclusive future for all.
