Onivia’s experience with nature!
Last Sunday, Onivia’s team and their families took part in a plantation experience along the Jarama River.
The Jarama River, which flows north-south through Madrid, is surrounded by many urban centres and industrial and agricultural areas. The river has been regulated by numerous dams/reservoirs and has experienced the effects of intensive water abstraction, leading to interruptions in its natural flow and poor water quality.
This planting project, led by the Fundación para el Fomento del Desarrollo y la Integración (FDI), aims to revitalise the area by helping to improve water quality, reduce carbon emissions, create a new green space for local residents and enhance biodiversity. Once the trees are established, an environmental education centre will be created on the site to involve local schools.
Onivia’s ‘1€ = 1 tree’ reforestation plan is part of Onivia’s Natural Connection campaign, which the company is promoting to its employees, shareholders, customers and suppliers in Spain, with the aim of offsetting the carbon emissions generated by its daily activities, infrastructure and employees.
In this way, and thanks to this initiative to raise awareness of the environment and the planet, Onivia manages to be part of the environmental solution, its commitment to offsetting emissions.
Our aim is to plant up to 2,000 trees in San Sebastian de los Reyes, in a field near the river Jarama in Madrid. The reforestation will be done with two species typical of riverine areas: Fresno Fraxinus Excelsior L. and Chopo in the hardest areas of the terrain. This reforestation will contribute to the fight against climate change, improve soil conservation and add value to the rural area.
On this occasion, Onivia’s volunteers counted on the great help of their families, including the little ones, who built and decorated some beautiful birdhouses and helped plant the trees.
